Victor Lim and Theresa Yu are two outstanding young pianist and are joining us for an evening of piano music including works by Beethoven, Janacek, Chopin and Debussy.

Theresa Yu is a 20-year-old pianist from Sydney, Australia, currently undertaking undergraduate studies at the Royal College of Music, as an RCM Scholar. She is supported by a Somers-Mountfort Scholarship, as well as the Zetland Foundation and the Youth Music Foundation of Australia, and is studying under Professor Andrew Ball.

Theresa received her AMusA in 2006 and her LMusA in 2010 from the Australian Music Examinations Board, and has been the recipient of many prizes from state-wide and national competitions in Australia. She was a finalist in the 2012 Fine Music 102.5 Young Performer’s Award, won the Zonta Young Performer’s Encouragement Award, and has performed a recital in the Theme and Variations Emerging Artists Concert Series. Theresa has performed at venues such as the Southbank Centre, Sydney Opera House, Princess Alexandra Hall, Dartmouth House, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre. She was invited to perform at the Lucas Parklands Young Musicians’ Festival on the Sunshine Coast in 2014 and 2015, and was a guest artist at the 2015 Chongqing Youth Piano Competition. Theresa also opened the 2016 Tiromoana Summer Concert Series in New Zealand and was awarded a scholarship to attend the Chetham’s International Piano Summer School earlier this year.

While on a full music scholarship at Pymble Ladies' College, Theresa performed the first movement of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 on the harpsichord with the PLC Chamber Strings, under the mentorship of Paul Dyer, Artistic Director of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra. She has also been broadcast numerous times on ABC Television and Fine Music 102.5, and been awarded the Kathleen Holmes Macrae Scholarship from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Theresa is immensely passionate about outreach work, and has worked as a pianist on the Memory Lane programme at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and collaborated on Music for Social Action, a project running music workshops for refugees. Her past teachers include Daniel Herscovitch and Zara Bulatova, and she has participated in masterclasses with pianists such as Gerard Willems.

South Korean pianist Victor Lim began learning the piano at the age of six. In 2008, Victor gained a scholarship to study at Wells Cathedral School with John Byrne and Richard Ormrod. During his time at Wells, Victor was a prizewinner in the 2011 Moray Piano Competition and reached the Keyboard Finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2012.

Victor recently gained his BMus Degree with first class honours at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester under the tutelage of Graham Scott, where he was the recipient of the RNCM Schubert Prize, Beethoven Prize and the Gordon Green Award. He is currently continuing his studies at the RNCM towards his MMus degree as an ABRSM scholar, supported further by Help Musicians UK. Victor now studies principally with Murray McLachlan and Jeremy Young, also receiving regular guidance from Philippe Cassard, Michel Beroff, Nelson Goerner and Kathryn Stott.

Chamber music plays a huge part in Victor's musical career. He regularly performs with pianist Ryan Drucker with whom he won the RNCM Piano Duo Prize in 2012. He is also a member of the Louko Piano Trio who were the winners of the RNCM Hirsh, Nossek and Christopher Rowland Ensemble of the Year Prizes as well as the 2016 Beethoven Piano Society of Europe Chamber Music Competition. They're coached by Jeremy Young and Qian Wu, and have benefited from further masterclasses by Alasdair Tait, Frans Helmerson, Peter Frankl and Gabor Takacs-Nagy.

As an extremely active performer, Victor has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and has performed in many prestigious venues such as Wigmore Hall, Wells Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral, Royal Welsh College of Music, Colston Hall and St Martin-in-the-Fields. Outside the UK, Victor has performed in Singapore, Malaysia, China, South Korea and France.
