Ivana Gavrić, piano

Following her stunning recital in 2023 we are really pleased to be welcoming Ivana back to Wensleydale.

Born into a musical family in Sarajevo and raised in the UK, Ivana studied at the University of Cambridge and the Royal College of Music. Ivana is proud to be an ambassador for the charity ‘Music Action International’.

Ivana has been heard on the concert platform at Wigmore Hall, the Barbican, Berlin Konzerthaus, Tonhalle Zürich, KKL Lucerne and the Gilmore Piano Festival in USA, as well as across China, in Canada and Peru. She has given broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and 4, SRF2, Espace 2 and ORF1. Ivana’s albums have received international acclaim, winning BBC Music Magazine Newcomer of the Year for ‘In the mists’ (Janáček and Schubert), Gramophone Editor’s Choice and Grieg Society Record of the Year for ‘Grieg Piano Works’, as well as Classic FM Album of the week for ‘Chopin’.

Ivana is drawn to composers like Janáček and Grieg who each take features of their respective homelands to create a distinctive musical voice. A long-standing collaboration with the award-winning composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad has resulted in several new works, including the piano concerto Between the Skies, the River and the Hills, written for and premiered by Ivana. She is also a leading advocate for the music of Dora Pejačević.

A dedicated chamber musician, Ivana plays in a two-piano duo with Tim Horton, and has also partnered colleagues including Maxim Vengerov, Matthew Barley and Thomas Gould at festivals such as Dartington and Presteigne in the UK, and Davos in Switzerland.

We have funding from the 2020 Coop Community Fund aimed at providing transport from different parts of Wensleydale using taxis and minibuses, and if there is sufficient demand a general bus service to and from concerts. If you need help please contact us and we will see what we can do to help. If you need somebody to bring you to a concert we can help by providing a free 'carer' ticket - this is aimed at people who would not otherwise buy a ticket.  To discuss your particular needs please call Carol (07891 371280) or Liz (07484 127360).
