Jessica Duchen is an acclaimed author and journalist. Her work has appeared regularly in The Independent, BBC Music Magazine, Opera News, Pianist and many other publications.
Born in London, she studied music at Cambridge and piano with Joan Havill.
Her novels often involve a musical slant and explore family tensions. The latest, Ghost Variations, is published by Unbound and tells the extraordinary true story of the Schumann Violin Concerto’s rediscovery in the 1930s. Jessica frequently appears as narrator in “concerts of the novels” of Alicia’s Gift and Hungarian Dances.
Other writing includes biographies of the composers Gabriel Fauré and Erich Wolfgang Korngold (Phaidon), two plays and her widely-read blog, JDCMB. She is now working on an opera libretto for the composer Roxanna Panufnik, a commission for Garsington Opera 2017.
